Personification, Lord of the Flies Chapter 6

"thunderous plume of spray leaping half-way up the cliff." (Golding, ch. 6)

This is personifying the water, describing the action of it on the cliff that its cascading off of. Golding used this language because he is foreshadowing something that is going to happen in the future.

When I think of this quote, this what I think of, water cascading off of a mountain.
